Nigerian artistes posting pictures of their babies on the social media
may have started a new fad of baby fairs, writes CHUX OHAI
More
than ever before, Nigeria' star artistes have imbibed the habit of
posting photographs of their loved ones on the Internet. In the last few
months, quite a number of them have had to announce the arrival of a
new baby to their fans and friends through the social media.
Unable
to hold back their joy, they would tweet short messages that clearly
convey their excitement to the reader and post pictures taken with the
newly arrived 'bundle of joy' via Instagram and other platforms.
Popular
artistes, whose babies' pictures have appeared on the Internet in
recent times, include Mercy Johnson, Timaya, El-Dee, Terry G, Tony
Tetuila and Kaffy.
Although it is not clear if these artistes
were merely showing off or genuinely expressing their happiness, this is
fast becoming a fad and bloggers seem to be in a hurry to relay the
messages and the pictures to the public.
MERCY JOHNSON
Just
a few days ago, star actress Mercy Johnson reportedly 'sneaked' into
the country from the USA where she was delivered of a baby girl and, a
few hours later, the photograph of her four-month old daughter, Purity,
was all over the Internet.
It is still puzzling how the actress
could easily evade the prying eyes of journalists at the Murtala
Muhammed International Airport only to court the attention of the public
through the same media online.
When she put to bed in America,
some photographs showing herself and her baby were everywhere on the
Internet. In all the pictures, she was smiling, an indication that the
birth of the child had made her a fulfilled woman.
The pictures
also reflected the Mercy's joy at breaking a jinx that was previously
associated with Nollywood's top divas. Before her marriage, many
Nigerians who were familiar with revealing pictures of the actress,
which showed her boobs, were apprehensive of when and how she would be
hooked.
E-PUNCH gathered that Mercy had gone to see her
husband's folk in Edo State with her daughter and she is expected in
Lagos soon for a reception that will take place in her parents' home.
TIMAYA
Enetimi
Odom, aka Timaya, posted a photograph of himself feeding a new born
baby on the social media in 2012. Apart from sharing the joy of his
fatherhood with his friends, associates and fans, he must have done this
to pass on a message to his detractors that he was not 'finished' as a
man.
The baby came at a time when he was yet to recover fully
from the pain of his breakup with Nollywood actress, Empress Njamah. But
if his fans expected him to get married to the mother of the child,
they were disappointed.
In a previous interview with E-PUNCH, the singer made it clear that he was not in a hurry to get hooked yet.
“I
wanted to have a baby by Barbara because she is my kind of woman; the
kind of woman I'd like to spend the rest of my life with and this was
why I decided from the outset that I'd go the whole hog with her. But
she knows that marriage is not something we will dabble into now,” he
had said.
EL-DEE
Rapper
and boss of Trybe Records, El-Dee Tha Don (real name Lanre Dabiri),
posted the picture of his baby on his Twitter handle a few hours after
his wife, Dolapo, gave birth to the child in Atlanta, USA. Since the
baby was his second child, it was obvious that he, too, was bitten by
the bug.
KAFFY
Pictures
of dance diva, Kaffayat Shafau, and her baby appeared on the Internet
early in January, 2012. It is possible that they were meant to announce a
positive change in her life, especially as she just got married to John
Ameh of the P-Square band.
Perhaps, to show that the arrival of
the baby had added to the joy of married life, she had reportedly told a
popular blogger, “Married life has been great. I love my husband and he
loves me. We live together as people who love and understand each
other.”
TONY TETUILA
On
different occasions, these two artistes had cause to express their joy
at becoming proud fathers through the social media. In one particular
post, an overwhelmed Tetuila had tweeted, “It is good to be a caring
father.”
