Nigeria: Gunmen Kill Cop, Seven Others in Plateau

Jos — Gunmen struck yesterday in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing one policeman and seven others.

This was just two days after four persons were killed at a drinking joint in Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of the State.

Daily Trust gathered that the assailants laid ambush in Jwol village and opened fire on a group of policemen who were on routine patrol of the area.

The gunmen, allegedly armed with sophisticated weapons, overpowered the policemen and succeeded in killing one corporal, Istifanus Samaila, making the others run into a nearby forest.

The assailants, as they were leaving Jwol, were said to have encountered four people at Sopp village and gunned three down as one escaped narrowly with gunshots.

In Jebu, near Sopp, three men said to have been coming from Ganawuri market were found dead with bullet wounds. Earlier in the day, the villagers had reported the body of a woman found around the market.

Police Public Relations Officer Emmanuel Abuh said, however, that no one died except one person that sustained injury.
